Moving Mountains

It’s been more than 30 years since the famous “Cooly kids” – Michael “MP” Peterson, Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew and Peter Townend – dominated one of the world’s most famous waves, Kirra Point.

The Kirra “glory days”, as dubbed by former world surfing champion Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew, ended almost half a century ago. The notorious “Cooly kids” are now in their late 50s and the once world-renowned Kirra Point is separated from the ocean by over 50 metres of sand.

Their wave, their legacy, hasn’t broken properly in 12 years.
